Introduction
The Federal Highway Administration is pleased to provide the Tribal Transportation Planning Reference Guide for Tribal transportation planners. It serves as a tool to help Tribal transportation and community planners organize the many references they need to do their jobs. You can navigate the Reference Guide by clicking on the topics to the left.
The FHWA Office of Planning is dedicated to providing Tribal transportation and community planners with resources to help in their efforts to improve Tribal transportation. This document is one of several resources currently available to Tribal transportation planners. The Tribal Planning Capacity Building Program (TPCB) offers several resource modules designed to guide Tribal planners through various transportation planning processes including the development of a long-range transportation plan, the Tribal transportation improvement program, and an overview of funding resources. TPCB also provides several examples of what other Tribes are doing to improve Tribal transportation planning. Finally, the TPCB offers Tribes the opportunity to learn from each other through a face-to-face meeting called a peer exchange. The peer exchange application process is outlined within the TPCB website.
The TPCB website may be accessed at: http://www.planning.dot.gov/focus_tribal.asp.
Many other Tribal transportation planning resources and information, including several documented in the Tribal Transportation Planning Reference Guide, are available via the FHWA website at: http://www.tribalplanning.fhwa.dot.gov/.
